UNDERSTANDING YOUR ANATOMY

Uneven labia minora

A difference between the labia does not automatically indicate a problem or a need for correction.

Anatomy has many variations

The labia minora commonly differ in size or outline. Their colour and visibility relative to the outer labia also vary. There is no single appearance they should match. An online photograph cannot define normality or decide whether surgery is appropriate.

When an assessment is useful

Seek assessment for a recent change, a lump, local pain, a wound, swelling or a persistent alteration. Do not assume this is simply cosmetic. You may also consult about rubbing or a concern affecting your wellbeing. Examination helps distinguish natural anatomy from possible disease.

Options without rushing into surgery

Assessment may establish that no treatment is needed. When symptoms exist, their cause is investigated before attributing them to size. Clothing, irritation, dryness and other factors may contribute. Any proposed correction should be proportionate and compatible with the clinic’s scope.

Correction of one side

A labiaplasty may be limited to one labium when appropriate for your anatomy. Assessment helps determine whether correction of one or both sides is suitable, preserving tissue and aiming for a proportionate contour. Healing influences the result, and some natural asymmetry may remain.
